Gosforth New Pavilion Nears Completion

After several frustrating years seeking funding and planning permission, the village of Gosforth is now close to having a new pavilion.  The 50 year old wooden pavilion is now just a memory as the new structure nears completion.

The project is being managed by Gosforth Greengarth RUFC who will also run the building on behalf of the Gosforth Playing Fields Committee.  The Rugby Club, who is the SASRA Rugby Section, have provided the bulk of the funding.  The balance of the funding has come from a variety of sources including SASRA,Neighbourhood Forums, Copeland Council, Cumbria RFU, Twickenham and the Cricket and Football Clubs.

In recent weeks the local population have also contributed by sponsoring boxes of tiles at £12 a time.

Steve Hall, who is the Secretary of the Gosforth Playing Fields and Treasurer of the Rugby Club, said

“It has been a long and, at times, frustrating journey and without the support of local businesses and the Parish Council we would not be where we are.  Our thanks go out to all our Supporters such as Alan Haile (Plumbing), John Garner (Electrical),David Moore (Joinery),Hertel (Scaffolding and Civil) and Jordan Nuclear who have provided support.  I would also like to thank the Gosforth Hall,Wheatsheaf and Lion and Lamb for all their donations”

As the new season starts on Saturday 26th August, work continues to complete the building.  If anyone would like to help the project, please ring or send donations to
